Making our streets friendlier, more pleasant and safer

Oxford Streets for People believes that our streets are valuable social spaces for all to use and enjoy. They are spaces for travelling along (whether by foot, cycle, bus or car),

for playing in and for interacting with neighbours.

We are dedicated to encouraging everyone to enjoy their street in this way.

Street Parties

We promote and support street parties as an excellent way of getting to know the neighbours and bringing communities together.

2012 is a great year to hold a street party - celebrating the Diamond Jubilee, sharing the excitement of the Olympics and the pleasure of having good times with neighbours.

Street Scene

We encourage people to look at ways of making permanent improvements to their Street Scene to ensure that it is a friendlier, more pleasant and safer place to be.

On Foot in Oxford

We actively encourage local authorities to develop streets in the best interests of all users – with particular emphasis on the needs of those on foot.

Oxford Walk & Talk is a series of downloadable themed, city centre ‘walkabouts’.

Playing Out

We support ‘Playing Out’ - a not-for-profit information and advice resource for street play which aims to increase children's safe access to informal play in residential streets – with sessions usually taking place after school. Find out more at playingout
